from yigi chang’s “queer as folklore” series.
Queer as Folklore, Yigi Chang invents a series of modern day fables explaining the mythological origins of the gay culture.
i went to the source, and most of these are really intense. i don’t know. they mainly give me bad feelings (as a queer femme who’s currently in love with a cis guy, i hate the idea of a “hasbian” or a “l.u.g”) but i think they’re supposed to be unnerving? maybe the description that says “the gay culture” as if its this monolithic entity…
the artist also cites a person on a reality fashion show as responsible for popularizing the term “fierce.” am i wrong in thinking that it was way more a term used in the 90s club scene by mostly gay black men?
or you know, i could just be overthinking it.
