best font to make silent film intertitles

are they all too ornate? can’t decide! help me! - points for legitbility, absolutely must have accents, and preferably free. if i had moolah it’d be this one for sure: meyer two.

my boyfriend, the consummate misanthrope, drew this. he’s the best. (this is so ooooold though! it’s so unlike his current work.)
i love this; the textures, the colours, the fonts! i made a poster in the fall with the same font as the “easy guide” and it was so much fun to draw.
