Harper’s disastrous agenda needs to be stopped with creative action and civil disobedience
Ottawa — During the reading of Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s throne speech today, a young page was yanked from the Senate Chamber as she tried to hold up a stop-sign placard reading “Stop Harper.”
“Harper’s agenda is disastrous for this country and for my generation,” Brigette Marcelle says. “We have to stop him from wasting billions on fighter jets, military bases, and corporate tax cuts while cutting social programs and destroying the climate. Most people in this country know what we need are green jobs, better medicare, and a healthy environment for future generations.”
Brigette Marcelle, 21 and a recent graduate from University of Ottawa, has been a page in the Senate for a year, but realized that working within parliament wouldn’t stop Harper’s agenda.
“Contrary to Harper’s rhetoric, Conservative values are not in fact Canadian values. How could they be when 3 out of 4 eligible voters didn’t even give their support to the Conservatives? But we will only be able to stop Harper’s agenda if people of all ages and from all walks of life engage in creative actions and civil disobediance,” she says.

Ottawa — During the reading of Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s throne speech today, a young page was yanked from the Senate Chamber as she tried to hold up a stop-sign placard reading “Stop Harper.”

Y’all know me. I have to weigh in here.  Agri biz is kind of nasty all around.  Animal farming is down right disgusting (you can still hunt and fish for your meat or buy genuine organic from small farms) but the vegetable farms and their friend monsanto are pretty nasty as well.   There’s no simple way to live clean.  We can all make baby steps or life overhauls, but the important thing is to realize what it takes to make a difference.
By the way, I don’t hunt anymore— not because I find it distasteful, I don’t.  I just don’t have the time.  I do make time, on occasion, to fish.  Nothing like a fresh catch right out of the sea or out of the wilds.  You can taste the difference.  It’s fresh.

The animals on organic farms still get killed in the awful slaughterhouses! I had more to say about this but head went fucking blank.  MORE ON THIS LATER.
Okay because of the fact that the animals on organic farms end up in the same slaughterhouses as animals that weren’t raised on organic farms there is going to be cross-contamination. So even if the animal started off clean they will most likely end up not so clean. Lots of fecal material ends up on these animals and no amount of cleaning your chicken is going to get rid of the bacteria on that the meat you bought. There has been a deregulation in the meat industry and the people who are supposed to inspect the slaughterhouses are prohibited from getting rid of the contaminated meat. The whole industry is truly fucked up and you cannot get away from it even if you go “organic”. I also realize the fucked up shit that has to do with monsanto. Everything needs to be reworked. Bring this shit back to the people and have it be about food, culture, memories, taste, and love and not money grubbing assholes who want to control the world cos they own food. Fuck them! Fuck their excuses! Fuck them saying this is the only way to feed the world and how this is a sustainable food system. It’s not and so many people are starving. This shit WILL collapse and we’re going to have to take this shit back and rebuild it so it works for the better of this world and the people and animals on it.

some food for thought. don’t necessarily know where i am standing these days but definitely thinking lots about my own choices.
