The students-in-blackface incident came up in almost every interview I’ve done so far, with some people telling me “you have to write about that if you’re going to paint an honest picture of the movement”, and others saying that I shouldn’t write about it because it would “make us look bad”.
I happen to think that if people are worried about making the student movement look bad, they shouldn’t go around in blackface to begin with.

OH MY GOD YESSSSSSSS i’ve had so many awkward conversations with activists and other journalists about this - how come more people weren’t fucking disgusted by that blackface incident, not to mention rehashing this “les nègres blancs de l’amérique” bullshit.
