tumblr etiquette
totally fed up with the way people try to call others out on tumblr.
making assumptions, being combative, name calling just don’t fucking work.
my suggestion? ask questions, ask if you can at least talk about things via email.
don’t just reblog an image with a thousand notes and expect the original poster to respond calmly or respectfully. dude, i’ve made the mistake myself in the past but i learned pretty quickly shit won’t get resolved that way, not even a little bit.
yes, it’s incredibly important to call people out when you think they’ve done something shitty/oppressive/transphobic/racist… but just reblogging an image with rude name calling and proving you haven’t actually contacted the person responsible for the offending content? makes you look like a petulant badger, not a genuinely concerned person hoping to find a reasonable solution.
EDITED TO ADD: totally not saying people don’t have the right to be pissed, or to respond angrily, especially if they are part of a marginalized group, especially if they are women or feminists because god knows we hear “calm down” all too often - my complaints are more about how people use TUMBLR to express that rage. if your goal is just to show you’re pissed? go to town. message will be loud and clear. but if your goal is to have a conversation? and hope someone learns from their mistakes, and maybe even apologizes publicly? i strongly suggest you take it off tumblr reblogging if you want to get there.
